Special Programs

Passages: Compassion and Choice at End of Life

Passages: Compassion and Choice is a Hebrew Home philosophy created to help empower, guide, educate and support residents and their loved ones through the various stages of their life here at the Hebrew Home. Such stages can include moving into a nursing home, loss of independence or illness. However the ultimate goal is to provide an environment whereby every resident’s final days are marked by peace, dignity, and serenity.

Passages: Compassion and Choice uses a multi-disciplinary approach in providing a framework for staff. We identify various methods to assist our residents and their loved ones through open, honest, and person centered dialogue around death and dying. Through interventions such as proactive communication, education and spirituality, just to name a few, we provide culturally sensitive support and guidance. The Passages team, using their skill, training, and knowledge work together with residents and their loved ones in acknowledging and having those difficult conversations and creating a dignified and meaningful experience as residents approach their final passage.

We hope that this introduction to our Passages philosophy will be the first of many open and ongoing discussions. We invite you to share your thoughts, comments and questions by emailing us at passages2@riverspring.org. A monthly support group is currently offered, as well as future webinars so please check your email for additional information.
