Daniel Reingold, MSW, J.D., is an award-winning, internationally recognized, transformative leader in the field of aging. For the past 35 years, as President and CEO and now Vice Chair of RiverSpring Living, he has grown the nationally acclaimed Hebrew Home at Riverdale from a skilled nursing facility serving 1,000 older adults with an annual operating budget of $100 million, into RiverSpring Living, a comprehensive organization of groundbreaking and high quality programs providing care for over 20,000 older New Yorkers with an annual operating budget of $1.2 Billion.
As a passionate advocate for older adults, Dan has guided RiverSpring Living to become a national model for eldercare, implementing multiple firsts which have been replicated by other organizations through the United States: Organizing and leading the first trip to Israel by residents of a nursing home; creating an alternative high school within the Hebrew Home for learning disabled high school students; opening the Weinberg Center for Elder Justice, the nation’s first emergency shelter for victims of elder abuse in the community; developing and disseminating the nation’s first policies regarding sexuality in long term care; establishing cutting-edge technology partnerships in Israel; building an environmentally sound co-generation plant to significantly reduce the campus’ carbon footprint; implementing the first policies regarding the use of medical cannabis; designing and building New York’s first “small house” nursing home; developing and implementing multiple intergenerational programs; and, designing, obtaining zoning approval and financing for River’s Edge, New York City’s first and only Life Plan Community. Dan has built three affordable senior housing communities, two assisted living facilities, and a middle-income apartment, totaling close to 600 units of critically needed housing. He was instrumental in purchasing the adjoining 14-acre parcel allowing the Hebrew Home’s spectacular Maurice R. And Corinne P. Greenberg Hudson River front location to expand to 32 acres, New York City’s largest privately held waterfront campus.
Dan has received the highest awards in the field: The National LeadingAge Award of Honor, the New York State LeadingAge Lawrence Larson Award, the Association of Jewish Aging Services Herbert Shore Award, and the United States Department of Justice Crime Victims Services Award. He maintains a highly visible presence on the national level, having testified before the United States Senate, attended the White House Conference on Aging, and advocated before numerous cities, states, and public policy bodies.
Before joining RiverSpring Living, Dan was an attorney in private practice. He received a bachelor’s degree from Hobart College, an MSW from Columbia University, and a J.D. from the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law. In 2019, the University of Mount Saint Vincent conferred a Doctor of Laws degree in recognition of Dan’s pioneering work on behalf of older adults. He and his wife Abby are the proud parents of Sarah (George Roberts), Rachel (Jason Naziri), and Rebecca, and the delighted grandparents of Eden and Vivian Roberts.
